June in Thailand means it’s finally cooling down and we’re into the rainy season–so 95 degrees instead of 100+ every day, and lots of regular showers to keep the air clean. I’ve been bouncing around, I’m so happy. THE SKY IS BLUE AND LIFE IS WONDERFUL!
Other than the weather, here’s what’s up:
Now that I can breathe, I’m back to work and revising a couple projects–one for me, and one for Ink Monster ; ) Quanta Reset is really coming along and our new team editor is amazing, so expect good things in September!
2. America bound!
I’ll be back in America before Reset releases. I’ve loved my time in Thailand, but I’m looking forward to being on home soil for a while. I’ve been in Asia for most of the time since January 2012, when I first moved to Taiwan. I totally wasn’t planning to be abroad so long. So many bagels to eat to make up for lost time!
My ten-year college reunion was this weekend and I missed it. But I didn’t really miss anything. I’m still close with my four closest friends from the good old class of 2006, and as much as it would be fun to see what everyone else has been up to, I’m okay with losing touch with acquaintances. Being abroad has definitely taught me that the important people make time for you, and you have to do the same. Otherwise, it’s okay to grow apart–there just isn’t time to stay friends with everyone. Plus, reunions are weird.
Best of the class of 2006! They couldn’t get rid of me if they tried.
I backed Niche on Kickstarter and have been playing the alpha game–it is so cute and it’s exactly the kind of repetitive fun I like as a break from writing. I’ll let you all know when the final version goes live on Steam. Until then, I’ll be busy trying to breed purple tiger-striped antler babies.
Hi from Northern Thailand! It’s 8 a.m and I’ve discovered the secret to productivity. Do you want to know???
Surprise. It’s ROCK HARD BEDS.
When I’m home in the US, I sleep on a cloud comprising several layers of down, more novelty pillows than you could count, and piles upon piles of snuggy blankets. My bed in Thailand is like sleeping on a rock. A boulder topped with one paper-thin sheet.
My hips are bruising from this nonsense, but I’m not changing a thing. Why torture myself, you ask? Because when I pop awake at 5 a.m. I am SO READY to get up and get to my computer. Staying in bed lazing around sounds like a miserable idea for the first time ever. As much as I miss the cloud bed, I’ve discovered that I’m happier being productive than I am being comfy.
Wooden desk chair = heaven compared to the flat torture sleeper.
Productivity is good for everyone. I’m reading lots of Shattered Pack and Cursed and finally getting back to work on Quanta Reset, which is a wonderful thing. The past few months were a bit rough at Dodge Ranch, so my mind has been twisted up like a ball of yarn scraps–now I’m FINALLY getting back to doing what I love and it feels amazing.
And the big news for you guys [[[drumroll]]]: the Quanta Reset cover reveal!!!! I can’t wait to share this one because it came out so SO COOL. I’d just show you now, but I’m not allowed thanks to a blood pact with that little blueberry of an Ink Monster mascot.
Hi guys! I’ve been going through one of those phases in life where I subsist on dried peas and water, go to sleep at six in the morning, and wake up at dusk wondering why I have no clean clothes to wear. Maybe I’m not taking very good care of myself, but I was fully expecting elves to appear and at least sweep up the crumbs around my laptop. Maybe even do my taxes. (Can elves TurboTax??)
Oh well. The upshot of all these long hours is that Quanta is coming and you have tons of giveaways to enter.
First on the agenda! Quanta’s blog tour starts today and it has its own Rafflecopter for prizes. Check out one of these fab blogs to enter.
Next: Goodreads giveaway! There are 10 SIGNED paperbacks up for grabs. Maybe if you win one, I’ll draw a picture of a donut in yours (or a narwhal–everyone loves narwhals).
And finally, reader prizes!! Ink Monster is hosting this one and the fab Ms. Candace Escobar chose the perfect prizes, representing all my favorite Etsy stores (PiggleAndPop! Rubipotamus!) + some Color Club polish, Quanta style for you nail hounds. Enter below.
And last, last. Thanks so much to all the ARC readers. The reviews are coming out and I’m so glad people are liking Quanta’s story. Here are a few quotes that made my day : )
Quanta is a jolted adrenaline-paced story of a cold, futuristic, dystopian, science-dominated world with a bit of spicy paranormal and sweet romance to flavor it up into a successful second installment of the Shadow Ravens Trilogy.
I loved this novel. I thought it was riveting, intense and romantic. I was captivated by the narration and the internal dialogue of the main characters, Quanta and Altair Orpheus. Both characters are diverse and lovable. The plot itself is captivating and very well developed. […] This is the second novel in the series, after Cipher, and holds up the high standards Cipher had put down. Both novels are intense, action packed and ultimately adorably romantic. The romantic tension between Quanta and Altair was thick and tangible. I totally recommend Quanta, especially to romance lovers, and give Quanta the star rating of FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS!
Inspired by the rich history of Chinese mythology, this sweeping fantasy is set in the ancient Kingdom of Xia and tells the coming of age story of Skybright, a young girl who worries about her growing otherness. As she turns 16, Skybright notices troubling changes. By day, she is a companion and handmaid to the youngest daughter of a very wealthy family. But nighttime brings with it a darkness that not even daybreak can quell. When her plight can no longer be denied, Skybright learns that despite a dark destiny, she must struggle to retain her sense of self even as she falls in love for the first time.
Lola says: My signed paperback is waiting for me in America! Can’t wait to pick it up when I visit home. Loved Silver Phoenix and Cindy Pon is the coolest.
Tessa McCaide has had it up to here with supernaturals. Luciana may have failed to steal Tessa’s magic, but she’s just getting started on her crusade for magical domination. If her demonic summoning isn’t stopped, it could mean the end of everything.
Tessa’s allies, including her mate Dastien, are ready to fight, but they’re no match for Luciana’s power. A little help (and ancient Inca mojo) from Tessa’s cousin, Claudia, may give the side of good a chance if she can make it home in time, but stopping the war is no longer an option.
When witches and wolves fight, no one wins. Only time will tell who will still be standing after the last spell is cast.
Lola says: AHHHH! Release day is tomorrow!! You have to read this one if you’ve been following the Alpha Girl series. I won’t spoil anything, but you are going to love how Aileen wraps up the arc with Tessa, Dastien, Luciana, and the whole crew <3
I’ve been MIA from the blog since Angel released… And I have no real excuse. I actually have this fancy editorial calendar that tells me what I’m supposed to post and when I’m supposed to post it, but then I look at it and go NAH. I’ll just watch K-dramas or write a book or something.
I have a busy cafe-hopping schedule, okay??
I’ve been blogging a bit over at Ink Monster if you want to see what I’ve been up to, but as I try to balance writing and social media, I find that blogging is the thing most likely to fall of the rails. I love Instagram and it’s the funnest for me out of all the networks, so please find me over there if you want to keep up with my projects or just say hello : )
I’ve also been planning to redesign loladodge.com for a while and it looks like it’s going to be more static in the future. I’ll post when I have an announcement or find a fun topic that I really want to talk about, but for the most part, I’m trying to focus my brain energy on writing and editing.
And that brings me to the point of this post–an announcement!
Quanta is releasing October 13th and to get the word out, Ink Monster has partnered with Sparkle Book Tours to host a one-week tour from October 5th to 13th. If you’re a blogger who likes SF romance, join the party HERE. We’re still signing up for reviews, promo, etc., and there’ll be a truckload of awesome giveaways for you readers out there.
So excited that Quanta is finally escaping into the world! We’re working on finalizing the file and the book will be up soonish for review on NetGalley.
